A Taste of 2012

Christmas is nearly upon us and the first anthology from Cruentus Libri Press is well on its way to completion. The contracts are in, our esteemed editor, Kevin G. Bufton, is busier than one of Santa’s elves compiling the finished product and we anticipate going to print in mid-to-late January. The anthology will be available as an e-book and a paperback and links will be provided here in due course.

Not being ones to rest on our laurels, we have plans to produce a further six anthologies in 2012. We will be posting full details on this very blog, as you’d expect, but for those of you that wish to get a head start, this is what we will be looking to release. Please don’t send any entries until the official submission guidelines have been posted but if you want to get cracking, all entries should be between 3000 and 5000 words (apart from the second volume of 100 Horrors of course).

  • A Fistful of Horrors – this will be a collection of horror stories set in the Old West.
  • The Dead Sea – this will be an anthology of stories centred on the theme of zombies on the high seas.
  • You’d Better Watch Out – a Christmas horror collection, in readiness for next year’s Yuletide festivities.
  • Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep – an anthology concerning things that go bump in the night.
  • These Four Walls – a collection of stories in the first person as told by the inmates of a mental institution for the criminally insane.
  • 100 Horrors: Volume II – the response to the first 100 Horrors was so good, that we’re giving it another go. All those who were too late to get into the first volume, there will be another collection coming out next year.

So that is our plan for 2012.

Until then, from all of us at Cruentus Libri Press, here’s hoping you have a happy Christmas (or whatever festival you celebrate at this time of year) and a suitably chilling New Year.

100 Horrors Anthology now closed to submissions

Please note that our first anthology – 100 Horrors – has now been filled. The final acceptance e-mail has gone out for the 100th slot and now the arduous task of formatting and compiling begins.

Thank you to everyone who submitted – the quality was extraordinarily high, which made choosing this final 100 very difficult. To those who made it – congratulations! To those who didn’t – I’ve a feeling we’re going to be bringing out a second volume next year, so get ready to try again!

Cover Artist Wanted: 100 Horrors

Submissions are coming in thick and fast – so much so that we may be closing submissions earlier than we originally thought. Failing that, we might end up doing a second volume. Thanks so much to everyone to has contributed thus far.

Now, we are looking for an artist to produce the cover for the anthology. As this is our first project, we are not in a position to pay up front for artwork, but you will get plenty of exposure, since we have 100 authors, all of whom will plugging their black little hearts out for the anthology. We will also include you in the royalties pot with the rest of the authors, so you will have a chance to make a bit of material wealth from the collection.

Prospective artists should send their work to us as an attachment to cruentus.libri@googlemail.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

For inspiration, check out the description of the anthology here.

Halfway There…

Submissions have been coming in thick and fast for our first anthology – 100 Horrors - and what seemed, at first, to be an ambitious goal now seems to be within our grasp.

Today, we accepted Brandon Scott’s excellent slice of micro fiction, ‘Rearview’ as our 50th contribution to the anthology, so we’ve officially passed the halfway point. There’s no turning back now, boys and girls.

Thank you so much to everyone who has submitted their entries thus far. There are still a dozen or so in the slush-pile, so if you haven’t heard from us yet, don’t panic – it just means we haven’t got round to reviewing your piece yet.

In the meantime – spread the word! Post our blog on Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, LiveJournal (do people still use LiveJournal?) and anywhere else you can think of. Let’s hit that 100 mark.

Do Something Good Today

The selection process for 100 Horrors is going along really well. Just over a third of the slots have been filled and I’ve still got a bunch in the slush-pile that I need to read through.

One of the contributors is Gill Hoffs, who is a fine writer who recently shared a dark corner of cyberspace with our own editor, Kevin G. Bufton on the Thrillers, Chillers ‘n’ Killers blog.

Gill also contributed to the Lost Children anthology, which is a charity publication, with proceeds going to Children 1st and PROTECT, both of which are very close to our hearts here at Cruentus Libri Press. The anthology is available for all major e-formats and is available for a mere $2.99.

So go ahead – splash out a couple of quid and help make a difference to the lives of children who really need a helping hand. We’re not even asking for you to make this a wholly selfless act – the stories themselves are well worth a read so everybody wins!

Full details of the anthology and where you can purchase it can be found here.
