A Taste of 2012

Christmas is nearly upon us and the first anthology from Cruentus Libri Press is well on its way to completion. The contracts are in, our esteemed editor, Kevin G. Bufton, is busier than one of Santa’s elves compiling the finished product and we anticipate going to print in mid-to-late January. The anthology will be available as an e-book and a paperback and links will be provided here in due course.

Not being ones to rest on our laurels, we have plans to produce a further six anthologies in 2012. We will be posting full details on this very blog, as you’d expect, but for those of you that wish to get a head start, this is what we will be looking to release. Please don’t send any entries until the official submission guidelines have been posted but if you want to get cracking, all entries should be between 3000 and 5000 words (apart from the second volume of 100 Horrors of course).

  • A Fistful of Horrors – this will be a collection of horror stories set in the Old West.
  • The Dead Sea – this will be an anthology of stories centred on the theme of zombies on the high seas.
  • You’d Better Watch Out – a Christmas horror collection, in readiness for next year’s Yuletide festivities.
  • Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep – an anthology concerning things that go bump in the night.
  • These Four Walls – a collection of stories in the first person as told by the inmates of a mental institution for the criminally insane.
  • 100 Horrors: Volume II – the response to the first 100 Horrors was so good, that we’re giving it another go. All those who were too late to get into the first volume, there will be another collection coming out next year.

So that is our plan for 2012.

Until then, from all of us at Cruentus Libri Press, here’s hoping you have a happy Christmas (or whatever festival you celebrate at this time of year) and a suitably chilling New Year.

Do Something Good Today

The selection process for 100 Horrors is going along really well. Just over a third of the slots have been filled and I’ve still got a bunch in the slush-pile that I need to read through.

One of the contributors is Gill Hoffs, who is a fine writer who recently shared a dark corner of cyberspace with our own editor, Kevin G. Bufton on the Thrillers, Chillers ‘n’ Killers blog.

Gill also contributed to the Lost Children anthology, which is a charity publication, with proceeds going to Children 1st and PROTECT, both of which are very close to our hearts here at Cruentus Libri Press. The anthology is available for all major e-formats and is available for a mere $2.99.

So go ahead – splash out a couple of quid and help make a difference to the lives of children who really need a helping hand. We’re not even asking for you to make this a wholly selfless act – the stories themselves are well worth a read so everybody wins!

Full details of the anthology and where you can purchase it can be found here.

A Quick Update on ’100 Horrors’

We’ve had our first few entries for 100 Horrors, but there’s still plenty of room, so keep ‘em coming, boys and girls.

That said, we’ve rethought our stance on the 100 word limit and have decided to be a little lenient on this point.

The word limit is now 95-105 words. That means if you we panicking that you just couldn’t trim one more word from your opus to make it fit our draconian requirements, you now have no excuse.

Check out the full anthology details here.

Welcome to the Darkness

Welcome, one and all, to the official home of Cruentus Libri Press.

We are a new, independent horror publisher looking to save the genre from the cloying grasp of Twilight knock-offs and [insert classic novel] with Zombies parodies.

Over the months and years to come we intend to publish the very best that the world of horror has to offer, bringing new writers into the limelight and giving the huge, untapped vein of fresh, dark talent its chance to make its voice heard.

We hope that you will join us on this dark journey.
